Poetry: Silence

"Listen to the Silence"

Lay beneath the snow, an eternity of white
Find a place between twilight and the night
Cast away the voices, the echoes and the rest
Listen to the silence, and tell me what it says
Sink beneath the surface of water calm and still
Let the depth become you, let breathing cease at will
Wait until the surface has smoothed itself like glass
Listen to the silence, and tell me what it asks
Fall under a spell that sends a dreamless sleep
Disallow the manifest of fantasies you keep
Hold at bay the straying urge that tempts your idle mind
Listen to the silence, and tell me what you find
Rise to flying heights, away from busy ground
Where nothing but the sky lives to make a sound
Fall into the wind, let it strip away the world
Listen to the silence, and tell me of its words
At last close your eyes, and find it in yourself
Fade into the void that shelters nothing else
Don't say you know the secrets of the raging quiet unless
You can listen to the silence, and tell me what it says
