4 Elements by Terminal Studio is a fantasy game based on a combination of 'hidden object', 'match 3' and 'spot the difference' games. The aim is to restore an ancient kingdom, brought to its knees by evil forces. The restoration involves unlocking four books of magic representing the four elements earth, fire, air and water. Each book requires four coded cards to be deciphered, each of those cards requires four parts of an altar to be revitalised by the release of an energy source.
In order to unlock each of the four books, you first need to find a key. This key is found by finding the component parts of four items and solving four puzzles using those items.
Once those puzzles have been solved and you have the necessary key, this unlocks the book which leads you into the next part of the game which entails the deciphering of four coded cards. To do this you need to restore an altar (again in four parts). This can be achieved by making a path for the energy source through to each part of the altar by matching three gems. Each time you 'match 3' you clear tiles from the path until you progress through to the altar. With this aspect of the game, as you work through the levels more and more obstacles are placed in your way to prevent the energy from getting to the altar. However, there are power-ups to assist (such as spades, bombs, etc).
Having solved the code on the cards, you then have to solve a 'spot the difference' puzzle to take you through to the next element. So basically, the theme of the game is focused around the number 4!
There are hints if you need a guiding hand and the difficulty levels increase not only by virtue of the obstacles along the way but also time limits.
The game is extremely well constructed and the graphics are sharp, pleasing to the eye and instantly engaging. The text aspects are clearly defined and easily read and the music is an absolute delight and totally in keeping with the fantasy theme of the game.
When I initially downloaded the demo version I thought I was in for another run of the mill 'match 3', 'hidden object' combination but the game grabbed my interest right from the start. It was such a delight to play and so absorbing that I found myself incredibly disappointed when my hour expired! I shall definitely be buying the full version. It certainly keeps the brain active and is an ideal game for children and adults alike I'm over 40 and was addicted from the initial hidden object puzzle right through the mish-mash of match 3s and spot the difference. It's one of those games where you think 'I can give up any time but perhaps I might just play one more level'!
I would definitely award this game 5/5 if I had the wherewithal I'd probably rate it 6/5! All I can suggest is that you download the demo and I can guarantee you'll instantly be drawn into the game.
