We have all heard the old adage "the best things in life are free." Well, I tend to agree wholeheartedly with that. There are many things that we can spend money on that make us happy and help us to enjoy life to a greater degree. If all of our earthly possessions were suddenly taken from us would we remain happy and content? Would we have enough of the best things?
Life is a very important "best thing." If we are alive, we should be very thankful. If we have a healthy life, we should be even more thankful. So many people are not blessed with a healthy life, yet some of those are more happy and content with their life than many others who have excellent health. More than likely, they are those who believe in possessing the best things in life.
Let us look at some of the things that I would consider to be the best things in life. One of them is joy. Joy comes from within, and is not dependent on outward circumstances. Some might disagree with me, but I believe that there is a difference in joy and happiness. Happiness depends on our circumstances. If we are content with the way that our life is going at any given time, we are happy, if we have enough money to buy the things we want, we are happy, and if everything is going our way, we are happy. Should someone come against us or cross us up, for some reason, that might make us unhappy very quickly.
Another one of the best things in life I believe, to most of us, is having the pleasure of being with our companion and our children. Just knowing that everyone is at home and safe when evening comes, gives us a sense of contentment. Sometimes, though, our companion or even our children, can make us very unhappy. If we are the normal individual, though, we will get over our unhappiness soon. Life is fickle though, one moment we can be happy and the next moment we might be very unhappy.
Friends are another one of the best things in life, and are of great importance. Without friends, we would be very lonely individuals. We all need friends, we all need each other, because no one is complete by himself and we all have something to contribute to each other in life.
Gratefulness is another of the best things in life. If we are grateful, people tend to be more thoughtful toward us and better enjoy being around us. I have seen folks who never seem grateful for anything. These people are very uncomfortable to be around. Griping and complaining about everything around them, will get you into the same state of mind, if you are not careful.
The best things in life include hope, love for God and others, joy, a gentle and quiet spirit, goodness, and faith, but I think the greatest of all would be, first love, faith in God and peace. With peace and faith in our lives, we have a strength of spirit and the courage to face any problem that comes our way. We know that we have One who is with us through it all and will keep us, because He has promised that He'll go with us to the very end of the world.
Many people think that money is the best thing in life. My friend, there are many more things that are more important than money. The things that I have mentioned cannot be bought, no matter how wealthy a person is, therefore, I believe that they are the best things in life, and of course, they are free. If peace, joy, hope, health, love, faith, friends and family, and thankfulness are all present in the life of a person, than I would say that that person has the best things that life can offer.
