When I came across this title I simply couldnt resist putting down a few words.
I am coming at this topic as an ex proffessional player,I am coming at this topic as a physical
education teacher, human movement specialist. But most of all as a fan,the highest, most noble thing any sports person can bestowe upon themselves!
But mostly I am writing this for one person, that person is the late great Johhny Warren.
Johhny who?I can hear many of you saying.
John was a long term T.V journalist, commentator, analyst.on S.B.S special broadcasting services here in Australia.
John was born into autralian society, and if there is such a thing as a mis-birth,then john,s
surely qualifies.John did more for the game in this country than, any one else. But I diverse,
I will say more about John elsewhere,at a later date.
For those interested,AND,because the parrallel analogies between soccer in the united states(The M.L.S.)and the game in Australia are uncanny I recommend you get hold of "sheilas, wogs.and, poofters"by John Warren...An incomplete biography of johhney Warren and soccer(football)in Australia. with Andy Harper&Josh Whittington.
(Random House Australia)isbn 1-7405-121-2...2002.
GOD REST YOUR SOUL JOHN;MAY YOU NEVER WALK ALONE!
It took john years too get the book published, due too the title, but DONT,jump too assumptions,or,ill concieved conclusions.
Things change, slowly, but they do change, what was acceptable last century,or even last week,is no longer.
As a P.E. teacher my job is too encourage kids too have a crack at many different, activities, sports. For those less blessed in the fine and gross motor skills area, putsue a recreational, non, copetitive set of activities.
"STEPHEN,STEPHEN,STEPHEN!...YOUR DINNERS READY" thats my mother calling me too come and eat, from over the back fence, onto the playing fields i grew up on in a tiny English village called Great-Wakering,in Essex England.
theres nothing great about the place really, but I think all kids have fond memories of where they grew up,or at least the lucky ones do.
As usual straight after school over the park(oval in aussie speak) throw two jumpers on the ground, pick teams, and play till it got to dark too see the ball,or at least until your called to dinner.
Most of our pick up games were very close, with score lines like 16-0,or 28..all HA,HA.
reason being they went on so long.
Point being, two jumpers, one ball, four kids, how simple is that. No coaches required.
I still have friends from those days many having emigrated too Australia.
Accessibility,simplicity,and
