THE DREAM
CHAPTER 20
It was the first time all day Carrie had a moment solely to herself. Carrie stood by the picture window watching Chaz back out of her driveway. Chaz caught her eye and waved to Carrie as he put his car in drive and slowly drove away. Carrie returned the wave with a faint smile. She followed Chaz's car into the distance until it was out of sight. She could not believe how this day had unfolded. It was so surreal. Things like this only happened in movies or dreams for that matter.
There it was again, that thought that had darted in and out of her mind throughout the day. Her thoughts shifted to how her day had begun. She had been awakened by a dream and the sound of thunder outside. It had become fairly common for Carrie to be awakened by a dream in the middle of the night. But as her day got into motion this dream had proven to be a nightmare. She kept hoping this day was only a dream and she would soon wake up to realize just that. As the day wore on and the events kept unraveling she became more and more aware that this was anything but a dream.
This just did not make sense. Carrie had heard of people having premonitions through their dreams, but wasn't that resigned for Biblical times when God spoke to those through their dreams? This wasn't a matter of her being trapped in some Old Testament time warp. This was the 21st century and she was not living among God's chosen people of the Bible. Dreams did sometimes come true but usually only the good kind of dreams that accompanied hopes and wishes. How is it that she could dream something that had actually come true? It wasn't just a matter of her having a dream that had now become reality, but it was the minutest details of her dream that were also part of the grave facts that seemed to now be taking on a life of their own. It gave Carrie goose bumps to even think about.
Brad just could not be dead. The only hope Carrie had was that this aspect of her eerie dream from the previous night was not true. She did not even want to consider what she would do or how she would react to the news if it proved to be true.
Carrie walked over to the entertainment center and turned on the stereo. She began scanning the presets until she located number five, the setting for WJJR's radio station. Out of all the stations Carrie listened to, there was no compare to her station, WJJR. "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion was playing. Carrie adjusted the volume control until the music was playing softly. She made
