Don't let the cost of decorating a guest bedroom stop you from turning a spare room into a warm and wonderful haven for your visitors. It's really easy to decorate a guest bedroom on a budget. Creating a special space that your guests will love, requires some research, a good plan, and a little elbow grease.

Once you've made the decision to decorate the guest room, give careful consideration to the details that would make a guest feel most comfortable and welcome in your home. With all of the elements in place, you'll have a guest bedroom that is a reflection of you and your hospitality.

Easy steps for decorating your guestroom on a budget:

Style

Decide on a look for the guest bedroom. Even if your home is contemporary, traditional or country, the guest bedroom could be an entirely different design. Make the room what you want it to be. Think atmosphere, think calm, think function. Most of all, have fun with the room. Whether you choose simplicity or charm, keep your vision of the guestroom forefront in your mind.

Color

The color of the room delivers the most impact of the room. Be sure to make a color selection based on the flow of the colors in the home. Pastels are the most soothing tones for the room, however if you want to be brave with the color, then go for it. You can find cans of "oops" paint in most hardware stores. Start there for your paint selections on the cheap. Let's face it, paint is the cheapest way to decorate. You can create the atmosphere of a room with your choice of color. Once you've made the color choice for the guest bedroom, you're ready to go to the next step.

Furnishings

Check out all of your surplus stuff and cull what you want for the guest bedroom. If you have unused lamps, plant stands, accessories, think about how they could work with the decor of the new room. Obviously, the first furniture piece you need would be the bed and the mattress. You've got a lot of options for bedding. Evaluate the size of the room and what size bed it would best accommodate. Twin beds are a great way to go. The linens are far cheaper for twin bed clothes. Futons are not a bad idea, especially if you choose to use the room for multi-functions. Your choices for bedding range from garage sales, Craig's list, and other second-hand resources. Should you buy the mattress second hand, be sure to check out the condition of the mattress and be sure to fumigate thoroughly before bringing it into the new room.
