From chapter 15 of The Unknown Relatives
"What was that noise? I heard something upstairs." Cindy said. We both headed toward the bottom of the stairs. Just then the doorway at the top of the stairs slammed shut. "Come on Cindy, the door just slammed shut. Let's get out of here." I said as I started up the stairs.
We got to the top of the stairs and tried to get the door open and couldn't get it open. "The door is locked. We better call for help." Cindy said as she opened her cell phone.
"Cindy, remember you can't get a signal from down here." I reminded her.
"I forgot, but there has to be someplace where we can get a signal." She said as she walked down the stairs. "No signal no signal no signal no signal no signal" I heard her muttering as she walked to the different corners of the basement.
"Cindy, quiet. I think there's someone up there. Do you hear the creaking of the floor boards?" I whispered to my sister.
"You think that there is someone up there? Do you think there is more than one person? They must know we're down here. My car is parked outside. We have candles all over the place. What do you think they want?" Cindy asked.
"I don't know. But it sounds like there is more than one person up there and I'm sure they knew we were down here; otherwise they wouldn't have locked the door. I bet it's that Carl Jones. He wants the diamond necklace. Cindy I have to admit I'm getting a little scared, he tried to run Uncle James off the road what do you think he'll do to us?" I asked.
"I think we need to just calm down and figure out what to do. I don't think he intends to harm us or he would have done that already. I think he wants us out of the way while he searches upstairs." Cindy said as she and I sat down on a pile of blankets in the corner of the basement.
"Maybe we just need to go to sleep and in the morning they'll leave. How about we pray and ask God to protect us." Cindy suggested.
"Whatever." I muttered.
"Jimmy, God will protect us. All we need to do is ask him. Just like Pastor Jake was talking about this morning." Cindy replied.
"Yeah, well you pray, and I'll spread these blankets out and make a couple of beds. I'm getting tired." I replied.
I guess Cindy was praying silently because I didn't hear a sound from her for a little while. Then she said "Okay that's done lets get some sleep. I'm going to blow out this candle so we don't start a fire."
It seemed like we had just gone to sleep when the sun light from the windows woke me up. I sat up and looked around. Cindy was sleeping next to me. I looked over toward the bathroom and noticed that the light was on in the room. I decided to get up. "I think I'll go check and see if the door is still locked." I muttered to myself.
"Huh?" Cindy muttered as she turned over.
I went over to the bottom of the stairs and looked up. "I don't believe this. They have some nerve." I yelled.
