One of the best places I have ever seen to enjoy the fall foliage is Western New York. Within Western New York one of the best places to view the fall foliage is Letchworth State Park. The park is a wonderland of colors in the fall. The park follows the Genesee River Gorge and has three beautiful waterfalls. One of the most beautiful sites in the park is the train trestle that is across the gorge. I would recommend entering the park at either the Portageville or Mount Morris entrances so you can enjoy going through the entire park.
All along the park are spectacular viewing areas of the Genesee River gorge and the spectacular fall foliage colors. You can stop in any of the parking areas and walk along the paths to view the gorge and all the beautiful fall foliage colors. If you enjoy hiking to view the fall foliage there are 66 miles of hiking trails within the park. Biking in the park is also an option. This area is a photographers dream so take your camera to get your own great shots of the river gorge and fall colors. The park is also a haven for wildlife and you may see all sorts of small animals, deer and even the eagles that nest there, so keep your eyes open.
There are plenty of picnic areas to have a fall picnic while enjoying the spectacular fall colors. If you want to enjoy a unique dining experience there is the Glen Iris Inn. If you stop at the Glen Iris be sure to check out the fish pond. There are also several historical sites that you can visit while in the park. Over the Columbus Day weekend, when the fall foliage is usually at its peak Letchworth State Park hosts one of the largest and best craft shows in the area. This gives a person on a day trip a great opportunity to view the fall foliage and enjoy the crafts.
A trip to Letchworth has something to offer everyone in the family. Go early and expect to spend the whole day so you can enjoy the Letchworth Park experience. While either coming or going to the park you may want to stop at any of the many fruit and vegetable stands to purchase your favorite items. Fresh picked apples, apple cider and pumpkins are usually the favorite things to purchase. So come to Letchworth State Park to enjoy the views of the gorge and the fall colors and everything else the park has to offer.
