As we all get older, our muscles start to tighten and our range of motion becomes limited. Daily activities that we do everyday start to become a hassel and the most simple things start to become a challenge. Sometimes your body might ache and be stiff for days on in and everytime you walk you may here cracking sounds, but stretching can be a simple solution. Stretching is defined as an exercise that extends the limbs and muscles to their full extent. Stretching can benefit your body in so many ways and help it work together.
The good thing about stretching is that everyone can do it whether you're young or old, and it doesn't take up that much time. There are many benifits to stretching your body. It can enhance muscle coordination, increase circulation of the blood and even increase energy levels. This is a pretty big help for the body for only a couple minutes of stretching. You can also stretch anywhere at anytime, like if you are laying around the house or watching television. Stretching helps your limbs and joints move further to decrease risk of injury and also helps decrease muscle soreness. A few minutes of stretching your body each day can help your body flow better together and reduce ache and pains. Some exercises that I do are all floor techniques where you just extend your body like the legs, arms and back and just hold for a second. For older people who might not want to get on the floor, they can use props like chairs, wall or a towel to help with their stretching techniques. You can also use different techniques to stretch every part of the body including your wrist, hamstrings and even your toes.
Stretching is key when you want to become more flexible and have your body working well as one. It helps your muscles and tendons work better together and your body feels more relaxed and at ease. For a few minutes a day for lasting results it is worth it. Think about it, wouldn't you rather stretch then to have your back always stiffening up. It's a small thing that takes up only a couple of minutes each day. When you stretch, this can have a good lasting effect on your body, so get off the couch and take a few minutes out of your day to soothe your own body.
