Poetry: Birthdays

by Emma Willey

88 Short Years

I can't believe I'm finally old,
It happened awfully fast
They say I'll have 88 candles
But I know I'll just have a blast.

I may not dance and I may not sing,
But I know I'll have a great time
Just think, I have so many memories
I can do it all again in my mind.

I'll celebrate in spite of my age
I'm happy to still be here,
I'm glad I can still walk, and talk
I've had a good long life, you hear?

My hair is white, my wrinkles are here
But they bring me respect and love
Getting old isn't as bad as you may think
I have blessings from Heaven above.

I have family who love me forever
No matter how elderly I get
And friends who still respect me
And I don't have a single regret.

So please don't feel sorry for me
I'll still have so many good times,
I have so much to be thankful for
I'm just glad I'm not ninety-nine.
