Reasons to consider joining the Army

Reasons you should consider joining the Army...family connection, leadership, education, adventure, and reliable pay. These are just some of the reasons one might want to consider joining the Army or any other branch of the military.

I was in the Army for a short period. Ever since I was a young tike I wanted to be in the Army. The reason was not because I knew what the Army was, but because my father was in the Army along with some other family members. It was something about those BDUs' ( battle dress uniforms ) that seems pretty cool. At that young age that uniform to me stood for braveness and security. As I grew up the though of joining never left my mind. I knew one day I would want my child to say " I want to follow in the family footsteps and join too!". Entering high school one of my daily classes was... that's right you guessed it, ROTC. Even though sly comments were thrown my way about the uniform, I knew what I wanted. I was so excited when I was getting fitted for my uniform, you couldn't cut the smile off my face! But a couple of months went by and my uniform got tight and jokes would fly left to right, so much that I literally had to duck. Feel free to laugh right now... I am!. I finally! got tired of the ROTC uniform because of the discomfort and jokes. SGT Jarall, my ROTC teacher assured me that I was doing the right thing and taught me how to over come small obstacles such as the ones I was dealing with. I stayed in ROTC all four years of high school. January 07,2001 I enlisted in the US Army as a PV2 ( private first class ). That was due to the 4 years in ROTC.

In basic training there are a whole lot of soldiers who are new to the environment and are looking for someone to follow, this leads to the skill of becoming a leader in your own right. There were a hand full of soldiers that enlisted as a PV2, including myself. So being in ROTC, my drill sergeant put me in charge of teaching drill sequence as well as drilling. I've never actually mastered the art of calling out drill sequence. I was nervous but had to quickly get out of that mind set, mainly because of the realism that the soldiers HAD! to learn this skill quickly. Leadership never set in so deep in my life. You're always asked " do you want to be a leader or a follower"? And I think 99% of the time a child, teenager, or employee says "leader". Everyone knows it's always that 1% that's quit the knuckle head... for this reason we want count them. The Army teaches you mentally and physically
