Reflections: The belief that good things happen

When we talk about believing that good things happen, what is it that we really want to know? We're actually wondering, "Does it really make a difference in our lives?"

With all the hype recently about the law of attraction, more and more people are beginning to consider the fact that our thoughts play a significant role in the way we experience our lives.

There's no doubt that our thoughts have a major impact on our lives. We make decisions based on our thoughts, plan and communicate; we teach and learn using our thought processes, and solve problems. The human ability to consciously think is obviously unique and powerful.

Although we can definitely do a lot of amazing things with our capacity to think, is the idea that thinking good thoughts influences what happens in our lives realistic?

There is an extremely important word in the title of this article. Can you guess what it is? Let me give you a hint: it starts with a b.' Got it? Yes, you're right, it's belief. And it is this one word that seems to be missing when it comes to the subject of our thoughts having an impact on our lives. You see, many individuals are going about their days thinking, "If I THINK good thoughts, good things will happen." This is a Giant misconception.

Yes, our thoughts DO influence our lives, for better or worse, but only those thoughts we BELIEVE. You see, if you think a thought but don't believe it, it has no power. You can see this truth demonstrated in your own life right now. Do you BELIEVE you are overweight or unattractive? Then most likely no amount of effort to convince you otherwise makes a difference. To you, you ARE overweight and unattractive. The same can be true of positive concepts. If you BELIEVE you are intelligent and creative, then no matter what anyone says. To you, you ARE intelligent and creative.

The belief that good things happen really isn't about magically manipulating things. It is simply an example of cause and effect. You experience what you truly believe. If you truly from the depths of your soul BELIEVE that God exists (cause), then you will see and experience God every where, every day (effect). If, however, you do not believe, then nothing will convince you that there is a God.

The person that believes in God may therefore experience things they would call miracles, whereas the other doesn't. It may not even be that anything of greater significance happens to the believer, it is just how they interpret certain situations and events as a result of their beliefs.

So, believing is the key word here. And you can not force yourself to believe. You either do or you don't. Yet, beliefs can change.

If you want to start believing in good things, then start looking for them. Be grateful for all of the good you have in your life right now. Make it a point to see beauty, kindness, and positive things every day. If you can't see it right there in front of you, go out and look for it.

Once you start looking, you will find. Once you have found, the more you will find, and the more you will believe. And the more you believe, the more you will notice and experience good things happening.

The way each of us experiences our lives is the effect of our individual beliefs. Only that which we BELIEVE and are open too can exist in our experience.
