Reflections: Rudeness in today's society

Rudeness what is it anyway? Do conservative countries define rudeness in a different manner as liberated nations?

Perhaps not. Judging rudeness may depend on a person's upbringing and morals. Being raised from a conservative family and society, it is already rude for me to see a child butt in in an adult conversation. Not offering a seat to elderly, disabled and pregnant women is also rudeness to my eyes.

It is indeed a term that has a myriad of meaning and levels depending on who you are talking to or who is describing it to you.

In general, though, rudeness has been a plague slowly eating our youth (most importantly) and our society because of the advancing and changing times.

When was the last time that you saw chivalry in action? How many children and youth nowadays know how to ultimately respect those who are older than them? Have you ever heard of a teenager calling his or her dad by first name instead of "dad" or "father"? When was the last time you remember saying sorry to a person who you bumped into as you hurriedly walk on the streets or in the mall?

With such a fast-paced life that we now live in, we tend to forget the basics of human respect and courtesy. Rage road is abound everywhere because motorists are in such a big hurry to get to where they are going. People's busy and hectic lives are forcing them to be brute and outlive and out-win everybody else.

Meanwhile, the children the youth who are supposed to be the future of our motherland are not well looked after morally. Parents are too busy tending to make a living not noticing that their kids lack the guidance they need outside of school. Even worse, in little children's formative years, they are stashed away in child care centers so that both mom and dad can work and provide for the family.

Excessive idolatry to political and entertainment figures also destroy our society's values. With the advent of too much media (TV, movies, internet, reading materials) that corrode our minds into idolizing people who we define as great without actually dissecting through their morals and ethics, we are mislead to emulate their lives believing that we could be as successful and famous as they are if we are like them in all aspects (including their unpleasant traits).

As everybody pursues to climb the corporate ladder to achieve more power and earn more dollars, people forget their manners and pay no attention to whether they are stepping on another person's dignity or hurting somebody on their way up. Personal
