The Creation According to Genesis
The story of the creation of the heavens and the earth is not a nice little story or a myth. We know the heaven and earth didn't suddenly appear by itself out of nothing. It was created by something, someone with amazing power. The big-bang theory of creation may well explain what occurred and can be tracked to the negative -41 of a second after explosion. But it started with something that science can't explain where did the original thing that exploded come from? Darwin's theory of evolution does not explain or attempt to solve the origin of the universe. His theory is that of life and how it evolved from the earth. We know there was a starting point to creation and a scriptural and mathematical probability of an ending point. We are gradually learning about bits and pieces of the minute particles that constitute matter. but it always seems as if there is more. Today we suddenly realize that 96% of the universe is made of energy and mass we cannot even see or measure (dark matter, dark energy).
Man was not supposed to understand everything about creation. The creation was made in order that we may glorify God and for God to present His Son in all His splendor. All we need to know is in the Bible. Instead of dealing with the creation itself, except as a testimony to His power, the Bible deals with the earth and man making only passing reference to the heavens. Rather than teaching us "about" creation, in the Bible He introduces us to the Creator himself. It is much better to know the creator than the creation ( Romans 1:25).
The Creation According to Genesis
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth was formless [waste and emptiness] and void, and darkness was over the surface [face of] of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving [hovering] over the surface of the waters" (Genesis 1:1-2).
There has been much theological discussion of these two passages. Obviously, the events recorded in verse 1 are much removed in time from the events included in verse 2. There is no time limit or chronology recorded. We do not even get to the seven days of creation until later.
Some have calculated that the heavens and the earth were created in the year 4004 B.C. This seems to be accepted Christian doctrine for many. However, this calculation is the myth. One Archbishop Ussher (1580-1656) originated this idea of a recent creation. He purported to construct a time-line of creation based on events which occurred in known
