Integrity In Business

"A cheating pair of scales is something detestable to Jehovah, but a complete stone-weight is a pleasure to him." Proverbs 11:1; 16:11; 20:10,23.

Having more money from cheating may be the thing in this world to get rich, but is a business with unethical practices one that we can trust? Most people try to live a honest life that does not cheat anyone in anything. If the God of the Bible says not to cheat our fellowman, why do so many people do it and yet not have a guilty conscience?

Integrity in business is a thing of the past in general instances. Of course, a business has to make money to succeed. A good days work sees good result. "Man, born of woman, is short-lived and glutted with agitation". Job 14:1. All of the pain and suffering we see in the world is because of injustice and lost of integrity.

"It's a dog eat dog world," some may say. Having everything you WANT brings sadness. Why? Having a bad conscience leads to all sorts of calamities. Look at all the movies, television shows, books, that exploit the poor and how the rich gets richer. All desires fulfilled and with what results? Lack of family happiness, divorce, no real friends, a seared conscience, these are not marks for happiness.

Would a humble and modest person be happy if he chose a life of justice and integrity? Having a clean conscience brings a happy family life, good friends you can trust, and business relationships that will last as long as the business. "The integrity of the upright ones is what leads them, but distortion by those dealing treacherously with despoil them". Proverbs 11:3. No matter how many difficulties life brings us, honestly and integrity is a much better way of life. Because if cheating someone at their expense, one may prosper for a time, but sooner or later the deceit will destroy him.

"The world is coming to an end!" is a cry by some. If and when that happens, how will all of our material gains help us? They will not be able to buy deliverance. The one who deals straight doesn't have to remember all the lies that were told. The cheater may seem prosperous, but only to fall in defeat, whether at the end of the world or at his own death. There is nothing left for that person. When the cheater is gone, how will most people feel? Joy!

So, what is the true mark of real purpose in life and happiness? Many will say..."be honest and do good to your neighbor." But there will always be a wicked person to take advantage of the one with integrity. Will following the rules, standards and principles of the Bible work? Yes-forever. Although we do not want to be mislead by those who teach something other than what the Bible says, so we must be careful of those who interpret the Scriptures. Whether they are men, religions, or organizations, if they says this is what it means, don't listen. "Just read it as it truthfully is, the word of God," 1 Thessalonians 2:13. To see the justice of God and to do it takes effort and time and integrity. It will be worth the reading, studying and meditating on the Scriptures until God's people come and help us.

To have a business with integrity, by following the standards and principles of the Bible will always lead to happiness. 'Try it, you'll like it!' It may seem difficult at first, the end results will be less emotional and mental stress, and a life that will last. See for yourself.
