It is a very important step that parents expose their child in sports. This would help them to become physically fit and it would also help them to improve their social skills.
One good thing about sports is that it would guide the child to focus more on healthy avenues for their personal improvement, thus, this would help them to avoid being exposed to drugs and other bad influences.
One good sport that can be taught to a child is soccer. This sport is not very expensive since you just need a ball and you can use your own backyard or your local park to play the game.
One important thing to train your child in the soccer is to expose him on soccer games. You could watch live games in your area. However, if games are not played in your area, you could let them watch Sports Channels or you could rent movies that have soccer as a theme.
According to the article of Paul Galla in Ezinearticles.com, there are four important skills that should be taught to a child when it comes to soccer. First is dribbling. If in basketball you need your hands to dribble, the feet are used in dribbling for a soccer game. The child should be taught on how to use the parts of his foot and to develop a sense of control over time.
The second skill is ball control. When a ball is passed, a player may control it by trapping. You can train your child by tossing the ball to him as he trains to trap the ball to have a better control on it. The third skill is shooting. In a game, you need to be good in shooting for you to win. According to Galla, you need power and precision for you to shoot the ball properly. Parents can teach their children on shooting first on a stationary ball and then with a moving ball as soon as the child have a better control and better execution of his movements.
The last skill that can be taught is goaltending. This position is a very important one since the goal tender would be the last one to defend the team from the attacks of the opponent. The parent can teach the child to practice goal tending by telling him to protect the goal. He needs to be away from the net as he protects it by being nearer to the shooting of the opponents. You can try to be the shooter and train the child to protect the goal.
These are the basic things that should be taught to a child to make him a pro in soccer. The parents, therefore, have a big role in teaching these skills to their child. The parents should encourage their children on the sport as they also serve as their coach in their early years.
