Gifts can make impressions for a lifetime, but the gifts that can make a memory for a lifetime are the ones you put together yourself. Most people really appreciate homemade gifts. It makes them feel special when someone takes the time to make it themselves. Homemade gifts usually make a bigger impression than something you picked up at a store. It means that you put a lot of thought into giving a gift instead of just picking something from a store shelf or out of a catalog. Homemade gifts have a personal touch whether it is something you baked, knitted, crocheted, or even built. There are many homemade gift ideas.
If you are not one to knit or crochet, but still want to add a personal touch to your gift, a nice idea is to make gift baskets. You can fill them with all kinds of things according to a person's preferences. If someone likes fragrances, you can fill it scented candles, bath oils, soaps, cute washcloths, potpourri, and even some body splash or cologne. You can decorate it with Christmas ribbons and bows to add the right touch. For someone who likes a certain sport, you can put items with their favorite team(s) on them, like coffee cups, pens, notebooks, and anything with their favorite team logo. If someone likes baked goods, bake up some cupcakes, muffins, or homemade cookies and fill the baskets with goodies. Even if you do not make what is in the basket, it gives it a homemade touch to put together a special basket for someone.
If you do sew, knit or crochet, and you have a long list of people to make gifts for, you might want to start early and make something special for each person on your list. Everyone loves a nice afghan. You can make one that matches their couch or bedroom set. This is a gift that keeps on giving. Every time someone covers up with it, they will think of you and how nice it was for you to make such a personal gift. You can also make someone place mats or for an older lady, a shawl would be nice. You can make pot holders to add to a special gift basket of homemade goodies. If you embroider, you can create a beautiful table cloth or doilies for their tables. There are endless gifts you can make.
Another nice gift if you have the talent, is a nice Christmas centerpiece. It can be made of real flowers or artificial ones. You can make it with candles added or candle holders with candles in them surrounded the perfect items to match their decor. Centerpieces can be made of anything from characters to plants.
