The man prodded James in the back with the knife as they walked across the dark field. As they stepped outside the wind hit James like a bull. His thin clothes were useless, his hair blew into his eyes. He was barefoot, the rocks and sharp, dead grass in the field bloodied his feet.
The man grabbed James' shoulder and slowed him down. They came to a large hole in the middle of the field, almost invisible in the night. James tried to take a step back, but the man held him in place.
"I couldn't do it exactly like I wanted. But just seeing you bleeding, dying down there, alone. That'll have to do."
James shuddered; not knowing if it was from the cold or fear. The man pushed James forward until he was standing on the edge of the hole, it was too dark to see the bottom. James breathing became more rapid, his mind racing. The man turned James around, so they were facing.
"Looks lonely down there, doesn't it?"
Without thinking, James slammed his body into the mans. The man cried out in surprise as they fell to the ground. James felt the knife slice his arm, but he didn't waste any time thinking about it. He scrambled to his feet. The old man grabbed his ankle and pulled it out from under him. James fell forward into the rugged ground.
The man dug his knee into James back. Grabbing his hair, he lifted James head. James kicked his feet, trying to buck the man off.
"James, this is not what I had in mind. I wanted it right through your heart, I wanted to see your face when life left you. But you don't leave me much of an option." The man brought the knife to James' throat. James screamed behind the tape.
James felt a slight burning in his neck, and then the weight disappeared off his back. James looked beside him, and saw a fight ensuing between the man and an animal. James got to his knees.
He realized the animal was Matilda, she had a hold of the mans arm. James saw him reaching frantically for the knife. James struggled to stand up. The mans hand was around the knife's handle when James got to his feet. He saw the knife strike his Matilda. She yelped and dropped.
James shouted behind the tape. And took a step towards them. The man pushed the dog off of him and looked at James. James eyes widened. He turned and moved as fast as he could to get away from the man. He stopped when he reached the hole, and turned sharply.
The man was standing in front of him, knife in hand. He laughed.
"You're still just a little bastard kid aren't you. Well, looks like I get to do it my way now."
James saw Matilda standing up behind the man, blood covered her hip. She turned and saw the two men, immediately hurrying towards them.
"Now my son will know, I finally did it. I finally avenged his early death. You won't be meeting him where you're going. You two will surely be in different places. Murderers don't go to Heaven. I've sacrificed my soul for my son, and I'd do it all over again. So, James Anderson, I'll see you in Hell!
