US Elections 2008: Why criticism of Palin's mothering is sexist

by Therese Daniels

Created on: September 08, 2008

It is not the situation that makes or breaks a person but his/her reaction to it.

In the usual compassionate and dignified way that defines the greatness of Governor Sarah Palin and her family, Mrs. Palin is acting in the highest and best way towards her Down'syndrome son and her pregnant daughter. She is embracing her lovely little boy and she is lovingly supporting her daughter through her rite of passage. Mrs. Palin's conduct towards her children is superior. How many young daughters now and in the past hundred years would have loved to have a mother as wonderful as Sarah Palin? These poor girls were humiliated, abused, rejected, and even murdered for the mere fact of being human and for however it happened- becoming pregnantnot a crime, but a design of nature. The reality is Governor Palin's daughter, son, and famiily are none of the public's business. It has nothing to do with her job performance.

As a woman who was abandoned in a strange city pregnant and penniless at the age of seventeen, I had to struggle to succeed -at times-in a very hostile towards women world. It made me strong and often fearless. I know had I not become that way, I might not have survived.

There are plenty of issues in which I disagree with Sarah Palin. There are just as many issues I do agree with her. I am a pro choice women's rights advocate. I supported Hillary. Never the less there is every thing about Sarah Palin I respect. She is consistent with her own convictions. Basically her ideology and philosophy is consistent with the majority of Americans. Yes, there are some differences, I know. Yet,I cannot ignore Governor Palin's obvious shining qualities. She has the qualities that make every woman proud to know her. She exudes honesty. She is competent. She has the courage of her convictions. She is highly intelligent. She loves family and country. These are the qualities of a good leader.

Governor Palin, like all human beings is not perfect. I know that. She has made mistakes. She like all humans, can learn from her mistakes and do better. If McCain becomes president and Palin vice president, I feel comfortable that Palin would make a very good president if anything should happen to John McCain. More important, I feel comfortable she never has nor ever will get in bed with the enemy. I feel comfortable she will protect America's budget as if it were her own household. I am certain she will expose and disclose political corruption when it confronts her. I feel good she is not
