Cry for the Children
Weep in mourning,
we of this modern world,
whose knowledge is go great
and technology so advanced!
We, who with our science
dare to be so bold
as to take away
life at its beginning.
Are we so wrapped up
in ourselves, so busied
with our own lives
that we consider a
new, young life a nuisance?
We have become free
enough to murder.
Do we admit to ourselves
that a time has come when
a mother has forgotten her baby?
We leave the children
to weep for themselves,
and then we silence their voices.
We must cry for the children
who, at the mercy of their parents,
become the helpless victims
of our democratic law.
These children who will
never know the joy of living -
who will never know joy.
Are we so cold and hard
as to throw back in His face
God's most precious gift to us?
Are we truly so advanced
that we can decide without guilt
who will live or die?
By killing our children
we are killing our very humanness,
for even animals nurture their young.
How easy it is to forget
that as humans
we have a duty
to ourselves and our children,
and we wipe out the thought
that every action shall
have its consequences.
Perhaps it is simply
easier to say,
"We're controlling the population,"
than to say,
"We're killing our children."
How quickly we take
pride in our actions
which allow us to
become worse than animals.
