My visit to the library on January 10, 2007 was not a usual trip for me. A usual trip would be with my daughter (who is 5 years old) and I reading children oriented books and mainly taking out a couple for her only. I needed a break from writing and for a little inspiration for future projects. I went on a short subway ride to 42nd street Grand Central Station and visited the historical Humanities and Social Science library on 5th Avenue in New York City.

First, I was there to be a tourist since in all of my thirty years I have never been there and second to see if I could receive some human contact on getting a list of book publishers in the N.Y.C. Tri-State area. Little did I know that it would be less of a research trip but an exhibition trip.

There were more than enough to look at other than its exquisite architecture. The exhibit that was most interesting to me is called "Ehon: The Artist and the Books in Japan". It is a variety of books from as far back as the 8th century until the current time from Japan's best-known and unknown artists, photographers and authors. The pictures both photographed and drawings and books were put into a variety of subjects from children stories, humanities, religion, sex, education, etc. this exhibition shows how books have been and will continue to be an influential tool.

My rating for this exhibit is a 10. Those who are of Japanese decent and others like me who are just interested in others cultures will appreciate the information offered. If you can, get there before February 4, 2007.

This is definitely not you average library.
