Poetry: Social injustice

by Stephanie Kjaerbaek

Created on: September 08, 2008

Here in the Western corner
Hidden by black mountains and vales
From our own who descend eastward
Weary in their eyes but vibrant
In the eyes of a foreigner
The village a broken circle releases the children
Held hostage by ancient vestige
Nothingness of one-hundred fifty years to them
They sing the anthem as a hymn

This country carefully succeeds
While slowly failing
The powers that be by the river
In the summer they dance
And in the winter they shiver
Saved only by the heat provided
By the western economic might
As if here there are no poor
Knowing of another plight

Has pissed me off for years
How they take without hesitation
They spit on us without consideration
And don't dare spit back', they say
But we keep our thoughts at bay
Politeness has its way
If you don't like it out here, then just go away
