she bites and scratches her way
down a man's back to climb up

speed-racer who won't stop
no stop signs and intersections for her

who hopes that life turns out this way
down the crooked track while headed
the right way
down-and-out in donut shop
working for a high-school flunkie
arrested for theft and fraud
and hauled up in remand
with hookers and a heroin junkie?

you've got your suicidal ones
and your divas and legends
and needle-craving thugs
porn stars and strippers
the ones who bought their figures
and the ones who sell themselves
like they were selling drugs
on the street with foreigners
and on film pleasing lowlife pugs
only natural babes and bombshells were good
and they haven't withstood
just a system ready for the next victim
they believe in fear when the mirror feeds
their fix
