Poetry: Horror

by Stephanie Kjaerbaek

He took a look at her lips
then leaned back on his hips
in a carefully structured suit
like the mafia man who struck out
on his own for the loot
but he was a guitar player
a charming soothsayer
he didn't go in for the kill
he left feeling ill
She licks ice cream off her banana split
With a blade, she cuts the fruit open
and layers each slice in the dish
The chocolate flows lusciously
she stares at a stranger constantly

She goes around downtown with
the score that makes them stiff
upon sudden arrival
destructive quick revival
eyes construct the exorcist
she stares out behind her mask
the bloodlines of a tryst float
inside her dark blue thin veins
they head down the highway
away from the park, plans for
entertainment again
a robbery
