Merry Christmas, Darling
Rinsed in multicolored lights
As we snuggle on the couch
He looks like rainbow sherbet
So I laugh.
My laughter mingled with his
Shatters into a thousand pieces
Like the beginning of fairies.
They dance with the angels
Disrupt the nativity scene
Cause general disarray.
The disorientation of our delight
Is wrenched into sudden order
By the sirens and the shouts
From the living room picture window.
Jimmy Stewart's voice is marred
Our laughter is stalled
Mother Mary stops her dance
We are crushed by how
Lucky we are.
