Pork Sausage and Apple Sizzle
I love this quick and easy recipe for a number of reasons. It is incredibly inexpensive and simple to make, it is absolutely delicious and as it is all made in the one pot, there are less dirty dishes at the end of it!
To provide two people with a satisfying meal, you will require:
Eight quality pork sausages (high meat content)
1 large white onion (quartered and split in to segments)
2 sweet green apples (de-cored and chopped in to approximately one inch chunks)
1 large clove of garlic (very finely chopped)
4 or 5 sage leaves (finely chopped) or a generous pinch of dried sage
A little vegetable or sunflower oil for frying
Salt and white pepper to taste
Heat the oil gently in a large, deep pan and slowly fry the sausages. Depending on the type of sausage, this will generally take around fifteen to twenty minutes. When they are ready, add the garlic, sage and onion to the pan and sweat off for a couple of minutes. Add the chunked apples and cook for another two or three minutes, stirring well and frequently to ensure equal heat is applied to all the ingredients. Season to taste and serve.
I find that a large crusty French loaf and some butter makes an excellent acoompaniment to this dish, naturally dependant upon how hungry you are feeling.
