Reflections on the saying: 'Live like you are dying'

What does it mean to live like you are dying? It does not mean you have to lay in bed the whole day awaiting death to reap your soul. I would like to think that if we all were to live like we were dying, we would all gain some much needed perspective and realization that everything is either not as important as they seem to be or there may be some things that suddenly gets bumped up the Life's list of things to do and makes all the other things look small in comparison.

If we could just take a moment to reflect, to think about what being able to live like you are dying means, we might just have the little bit of courage to start by doing that one or two things we have been procrastinating.

How often in life do we spend time getting miffed, angry and pissed off at something that happened to us? Did a friend talk to you in a dismissive manner because they were in a bad mood and you got cheesed off because of that for a large part of the day? Did a stranger do or say something that got in your hair? Or even did someone you love give you the cold shoulder or worst still, an iron curtain? Much of our time, emotions and happiness is either spent or forsaken on things, people, events who are much better off without it. If we to live like we were dying, all these small little things probably wouldn't have mattered because we are on a mission to live life to the fullest and experiencing all the wonderful things. So much so that we would not have the time to bother ourselves with all the little painful irritants in life, that is IF we were to live like we were dying.

And of course, think about the things that you would have done. Talk to the girl you've always wanted to talk to, read the book you've always wanted to, forgive someone, say sorry to someone and do what you have to do before your time runs out. If only, this would be a much better place to be in.
