Poetry: Facing life

by Michael Mcclure

Created on: September 07, 2008

Inevitable
He says goodbye
To everything he knows
Looking around
One last time
At the familiar streets
Holding in everything
He sees and hears
Knowing he may
Never be back
This place and these people
The joys and sorrows
Will all soon be past for him
The inevitability of it all
Is fearsome
But there is no choice for him now
Except to square his shoulders
And prepare for a future
He doesn't want to face
