The thing is this: I am no expert on ballet flats. I am really no expert on shoes at all. I like shoes. And I buy shoes. I own lots of shoes. Most of them are pretty inexpensive. A lot of them I just plain don't wear anymore, but can't seem to part with for some strange reason. Some of my very favorites are ballet flats. I have sought for a long time for a pair of them that somehow magically closely resemble a pair of classic Chanel ballet flats for an enormously discount price, but there simply IS no such thing. And I even shop eBay pretty regularly. If I was going to find them, you'd think it would be there. They have everything.
Oh, sometimes they may look a little like them, and sometimes they may even be made of leather. But then you put them on your feet. I am wholly betting (though I will never even step foot into a store that actually SELLS Chanel ballet flats) that Chanels feel absolutely DIVINE. They don't pinch, they don't slide, they don't make your feet swelter and sweat, they don't slip, they don't feel mushy and they don't make you have flat feet in a week. I may never get my feet INTO a pair of Chanel ballet flats, but if by some weird chance I ever do I'm never, ever taking them off again!
They're just the absolute perfect ballet flat. They usually have a nicely rounded toe (in my opinion, the best part!), just a little bit right at the tip-toe of the shoe, though I have also seen several styles with the pointy toe for girls who like that look. I don't. Yuck. Anyway, they come in a wonderful palette of colors and a happy variety of decor, and they can be fully formal or classically casual. Plus, they look like they were just made to cradle a foot in tender loving care - which I think they were! They make my feet feel so much better just by LOOKING at Reese Witherspoon wearing them! It makes me smile just to think about it.
Ah, yes - I may only know a little bit about shoes, and I'm never going to win any fashion awards, And Coco Chanel was never trying to market to people in my income bracket, but I am fairly certain that this is like many other areas of my life where I have champagne taste with a tap water pocketbook. I tend to be able to choose the better things in life, even if those same things that I choose are a little bit beyond my reach in this moment. That's OK. Gives me something to dream about - like a closet full of Chanel ballet flats!
