Beating the Monday morning blues

by Elizabeth Eagleton

Created on: September 06, 2008

How excited we all get when Friday at 5:00 p.m. occursunfortunately some of us work other hours and gain the same appreciation as those who work nine to five. Monday morning is a catalyst that engages people in the dreaded visionary conundrum of the day that takes us into the forthcoming week. We prep ourselves mentally as well as physically. Doing laundry, ironing clothes, finishing up work on our lap tops, making lunches, filling the gas tank, and many other mental checklist items, however, there are ways to combat these unnecessary feelings.

1. When you seem to get caught up in preparing for Monday, remind yourself to occasionally take Monday off once in a while. It will feel like a long deserved weekend.
2. Lose the mentality of having to go to work for another week. We all need our jobs to sustain our families and life experiences. If you are so unhappy, perhaps you need to look for another job that will cater to your schedule.
3. Use Monday as a work at home day.
4. Take your child to work with you and give him or her projects to do and it will seem as if you are spending quality time with your child.
5. Use Monday as a date night and it may end up turning into a Friday or Saturday night feeling.
6. Take the added load off of your mind and go out to dinner on Monday so you will not have to rush home to cook.
7. Use the first day of the week as a mental health day and pamper yourself with massage and relaxation.
8. Take yourself out of your situation and go somewhere for example, if you live in a farm area, trek to the city or if you are in the city, find a quiet solace place to ease the tension of the day.
9. Get a hair cut or style which will lift those blue spirits.
10. Use Monday to your advantage for example, improve upon yourself in varying ways such as using a journal, improving a situation at work, accomplish something and you may feel better.

We can all agree that Monday is the hardest day of the week but we can get through it and there are varying ways of combating this ideology that Monday is the root of all evil in the work world. I know that once you take those sheets and blankets to get up in the morning, the mood of the day is dismal because we view our work week as too long and we question ourselves of how will we get through it. We always doso why worry yourself over one day? In my opinion, Monday is overrated and has this reputation of being the worst day of the week. My adviceuse the day to your advantage and do not let it get you down.
