Is the Women's Right movement destroying our families

Is the Women's Right movement destroying our families? Definitely not! The attacks on our families are numerous, but the Women's Right Movement is not one of them.

One of the top destroyers of our families today is pornography. Pornography is blatant use of women as objects rather than human beings. Pornography also produces sex addicts. Sexual addiction is a major cause of divorces. The Internet has made pornography easily available in many homes, so the impact on today's family is multiplied.

Another destroyer of the family is domestic violence. Domestic violence can increase the incidence of divorce. When it doesn't result in divorce, domestic violence produces families that are sick at heart. Children learn to abuse or be abused.

Many other factors can be pointed to that have caused a decline in our families today. Besides the Internet bringing pornography into the home, computer use in general, has resulted in less time for nurturing relationships among family members. Time families used to spend talking, playing, and working together is now spent with each family member behind his or her own computer monitor, relating to a "virtual" family.

Materialism and greed have also resulted in the downfall of the family. Advertisers convince us that we "need" and "deserve" more. Adults in the family, of either gender, could spend less hours at work if materialism had not become part of the fabric of our world.

Not only has the Women's Right Movement not been involved in the destruction of our families, to the contrary, it has actually helped build up our families. Our homes are better, today, because of the Women's Right Movement.

Whereas the use of women as objects of men's lust tears down the family, and spousal abuse causes an insidious infection at its heart, the family benefits when a woman or a girl's self-esteem is increased and she is encouraged to live up to her full potential. The Women's Right Movement has played a major role in the increase of both of these benefits. This results in a happier family, increased income, better mental health, and recovery from a codependent lifestyle.

And, yes, materialism and greed have robbed the family of time together, but the Women's Right Movement has not. It is because of greed and materialism in society that many women do not feel they have that choice to stay at home rather than work in the market place. The Women's Right Movement merely made it an option for women to chose either lifestyle. Women, today, can choose to homeschool, work part-time or full-time outside the home, or run her own business. Women can be mothers, teachers, doctors, or even the president of the United States!

The complexity of factors involved in the destruction of the modern family make it impossible to point to any one issue as the only culprit in its demise. To point one's finger at the Women's Right Movement as the guilty party is simplistic and just plain wrong.
