Simple Tips To Survive Tough Economic Times.
"How do we survive these tough times?" is the question on most Americans lips today, from the struggling entrepreneur who has just opened his first business, to the young family with four kids to support, to pensioners who survive on a fixed amount each month. Just about everyone has been affected in one way or another.
The economy is in limbo, the once thriving housing market is on the decline, and gas prices are hitting all time highs. What can you, the average American citizen do, not only to survive, but to thrive during these times of economic uncertainty?
Surviving and thriving in these times requires you to re-evaluate your spending habits and to shift your perspective. Look at this as a time to re-think what's truly important and to shift your focus from a materialistic one to a more wholesome, family oriented one.
There are many ways that you can trim your spending habits and make that dollar go further. Look for all those little money leaks, and plug as many of them as you possibly can. For example, if you are used to going out for a Starbucks coffee each morning on the way to work, why not make your own coffee, and treat yourself out to a Starbucks once a week only.
If you are a recreational shopper, that is you shop for relaxation and enjoyment, then one of the best things you can do to cut down dramatically on your spending habits is to stop carrying your credit cards and even store cards with you. Carry only cash. This habit alone will dramatically reduce your spending. Before you buy something, ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" 'Do I have something similar that can serve the same purpose?" and "Can I really afford this?" If you answered 'no' to any of these questions, then put the item back on the shelf.
Search the internet for 'money-saving tips' and you'll come up with a wealth of information, tips and advice on how to make that dollar stretch further. Try to pride yourself on getting the most value out of every dollar you earn and spend. I find that turning frugality into a game is a great way to stay positive and motivated about getting the most bang for my buck.
And lastly, remember, tough times never last, but tough people do. The economy will start to swing upward, and when it does, you will be satisfied knowing that you came through the best that you could and that you learned some valuable lessons along the way.
