The reason some folks have difficulty navigating their way through life is because they do not have a set of guiding principles that act as their compass, steering them away from what has been deemed wrong by the laws of society. Life's journey should be about reaching and sustaining ethical standards, which allows for high-mindedness and conscionable decision making.
Persons of great moral convictions will not be swayed by what looks good, but, for them, will strive for that which is good. They will take time to examine and to imagine the results of each deed because they will have learned there are consequences for each of their actions. Do not look for validation from those around you, if their goals and purposes in life are not in line with your own thinking. These are actually significant principles for having a great life, versus one built on happenstances.
High-minded individuals live lives of integrity and straightforwardness and will seek worthy and noble causes. There is never a need to sermonize, because they are beacons or symbols of hope to others, for all life's possibilities, who will want to be illuminated by their light. There is an old adage that says "learn by seeing and doing," which sums up life's experiences. There should never be a need to cry out to the world to look at you, because it should know who you are and it should come to you. To have this type of relationship with the world, you must always adhere to and do the right and honorable things in life and not the unethical and ignominious. After all, life is about the choices we make: the road we take at the intersection, the easy that may seem better than the difficult, or the words spoken that may have been better left unsaid.
Many times in life your word and your good name will be all that you have, but if you have squandered them by chasing after immoral and inexpedient pursuits rather than building a repository of trust and moral rectitude, more often than not you will have lived a life filled with regrets. A good name and honor are tantamount to having great credit or enjoying substantial bank accounts, each will allow you at will to make use of them or make withdrawals. These folks, through the measured course of their lives, often have something worthwhile to share with the world.
Life is complicated; there is no way anyone is going to live it trouble-free and without a few regrets. You can, however, establish parameters for your senses to help you remain aboveboard and noble in all that you do. Living a principled life means the things you have done in the dark of night may be seen in the light of day with honor and without shame; it means being a ray of light for someone who may not have yet discovered his or her own luminosity; and it means having capital at your disposal when times may not be so good.
