Training for the Olympics
Timmy had wanted to be part of the Olympics since he got his first glimpse of them just a few days after his fourth birthday. He'd been given a little mixed breed terrier puppy for his birthday who he named Toby, and the two of them were allowed to watch part of the opening ceremony with Timmy's family. They didn't get to watch it all because they needed their sleep', though Timmy was sure he could have stayed awake for the whole show. And although he was fascinated with the whole spectacle, when Toby started dozing off, he conceded defeat and off they went to bed
His Mum told him that the Games were held every four years, but he was only four years old, so he really didn't understand exactly what she meant by that. He and Toby were allowed to watch some of the events when they were on at times Timmy's folks felt were suitable for him to be up and watching, but he desperately wanted to see more and vowed that when he was old enough he was going to play a big part in the Olympics. From what his Mum had said, he did understand that this wasn't just a one off event so he would get more opportunities. He saw little bits of many of the sporting events and couldn't decide which he liked the best; they all looked so exciting and the athletes were so fit and strong. Just to be a part of it would be totally awesome!
During the next four years Timmy started school and began to participate in some of the sports he'd seen as part of the Olympics. He loved school, except for the fact that Toby couldn't go with him, so he spent as much time as he possibly could after school and at the weekends with his faithful dog. Toby really missed Timmy when he was gone too, and even though he was only a little dog, he just about knocked Timmy over every day when he jumped on him as he came up the front path..
As the time for the next Olympics drew closer, Timmy's excitement grew, but he'd only just turned 8 when they started, so though he was able to see quite a lot more of them this time, he still had to go to bed and miss a lot too.. He hadn't seen any of the diving the first time around, and he really enjoyed what he got to see of that this time. And he saw quite a bit of the gymnastics; oh how fit and strong and flexible those guys were! He'd already improved in his track and field events at school, but maybe it was time he tried to get into the diving or gymnastics Boy, it was hard to decide what he was best suited to. But by the time these Olympics finished,
