As a small business owner you have undoubtedly thought about expanding your business, by hiring more workers for your company. Hiring additional workers will mean that you'll have to pay out more wages to your employees, and you'll need to keep accurate records on what's been paid out to them as well.
A payroll check is a paper document that's issued to the employee from the employer. It's used to pay the employee for all of their services rendered, and it keeps track of all of their earned wages up to a full year. If you are interested in using payroll checks to pay your employee's, then here's a few steps to get you started.
The first thing you'll want to do is inform the I.R.S. of any changes to your business, and this includes the hiring of more workers. Keeping accurate records of your payroll checks is imperative to running a successful business, and you'll need to make sure that your business corresponds accordingly with the Government.
The second thing that'll you'll need to do is open a bank account, that's separate from your personal bank account. Most payroll checks will have to be linked to a banking account, and you'll want to avoid linking your accounts together to avoid confusion.
The third step that you'll need to take involves the purchase of payroll software for your computer. There are many different types of payroll software that you can choose from. Make sure that the software you choose is compatible with your computer, and make sure that you have all the proper equipment that you'll need in order to create your own payroll checks. You'll need a printer in order to print out your checks later. Make sure that you avoid becoming obsessed with the latest payroll software. Most payroll software also includes a tax table which can be installed on your computer. If you unknowingly use the wrong tax table, the mistake can result in a paying an expensive penalty fee.
The fourth thing that you'll need to do is decide the type of checks you'll use. Then create your payroll check that best represents your company. Most software packages allows you to create your own logo, and so the design of the check will be entirely up to you. There are many different types of payroll checks that you can use. "Print payroll checks" can be obtained from payroll software, and it normally comes with different templates you can use. Most of these programs also have your signature already signed so that you won't have to continually sign checks
The fifth step is the step where you make sure that you post date all the checks that you create. This is basically a check that's given to the employee, but it has a written date in which the check can't be cashed until that date. This is done so that you can have funds available, when your employee cashes their checks.
The last thing you'll need to do is print out your checks to give to all your employees. Both you and your employee will get a copy of the payroll check that has been issued out. Just remember to check that all the hours worked, vacation time, sick time, and taxes removed before you issue out the checks to your employees.
Choosing the right payroll check for your company is a decision that'll require a lot of thought and consideration. You'll want your company to continue to grow, and taking care of your investments is imperative to the success of your company.
