Recipes: Chocolate cherry cake

by Janet Farricelli CPDT-KA

How about a nice, soft chocolate cake, with sweet, tangy cherries and a dollop of fresh whipped cream? If your mouth is watering already but you really do not wish to make your kitchen too messy, try out this great and fast Chocolate Cherry Cake. You will thank me for it!

What you will need:

1 Box German chocolate cake mix
1 can cherry pie filling
1 container extra creamy Cool-Whip
5 squares semi sweet chocolate

Prepare the German chocolate cake according to package.
Once cake is baked and your neighbors are already knocking on the door begging for a slice, open the can of cherries. Slice the cake horizontally so to have a layer. Fill the layer with the cherry pie filling leaving about 2 tablespoons behind. Put the top layer back and smother the cake with the fresh, extra rich whipped cream on top and sides. At the center of the cake put one tablespoon of the cherries displaying them in a circle. Put remaining cherries around the cake circumference for beauty. With a knife try to slice the semi sweet chocolate into thin stripes. Display the chocolate strips on the sides of the cake and on top.

Ta Da! You are done! The cake not only looks beautiful but it also tastes great! This is really my Americanized version of a Black Forest cake I tried in Germany a few years ago.
You will have people asking you if the cake is store bought and then the next question will be for the recipe. But this is a secret, between you and me... and the other thousands of readers over the internet! So mouth shut and enjoy, YUM!
