Reflections: The belief that good things happen

If you have the belief that good things happen then you are more likely to recognise the positive aspects of life and to appreciate them when they occur. If, on the other hand, you have a more negative thought procedure then you will see only what happens around you that is negative and run the risk of not noticing that which is good at all.

To a certain extent we all have a belief about what constitutes our own life story. While we are unable to control certain events, and are likely to endure a certain amount of hardships, we are in control of how we interpret these events and how we handle them. When we believe that good things happen we tend to get over minor catastrophes more easily and are often able to find a positive side to experiences that might otherwise have been overlooked.

When we do not believe that good things happen we are quick to spot when bad things happen and to add them to our weight of negativity in regards to our beliefs. We may inadvertently look for bad things that happen to help compound our thoughts.

When we consistently lean towards negativity we fail to respond to possible good things, as we don't believe that they really exist. We may manage to see them some times, but we think that they are for other people to pick up on and utilise, not us.

The belief that good things happen can help carry us through more severe times of difficulties and disasters. We will be able to recognise that we are suffering but at the same time we will know that things change and that difficulties usually ease with time and become easier to deal with.

For those of us who are locked into a more negative way of thinking life always seems bleak. It may be that we feel that if we expect the worst in life then we wont get any nasty surprises. Sadly what can occur when we allow ourselves to think this way is that we don't even try to move towards good experiences that would make us happy. We begin to expect that there are no opportunities when actually they are right there before us.

Although our positive power of thought cannot force certain negative events to completely reverse, there is much to be said for the power of intention on affecting a positive chain of events to occur when we are dealing with other people.

When we believe in that which is good this aspect of our belief system can help us and others around us. People who we deal with on a regular basis may find our sunny outlook, or strength, infectious. We can give them the courage to begin to see silver linings too.

We can also find that when we believe in good things happening we project our positive feelings to others enough for them to feel positive about us in return. As we expect good things to happen we are ready for them and are able to accept them when they are offered to us.
