St Augustine, Florida is a great tourist destination. It is the oldest city in the Nation. The weather is nice and you can have a wonderful family vacation in St Augustine, Florida. There's something for everyone to enjoy-tennis, golf, fishing diving surfing, parasailing, sight seeing, etc. The list of things to see and do in St Augustine are endless and because it has the wonderful Florida weather, you can really enjoy your time out-of-doors. I have been to St Augustine several times with my children and I can tell you that they had the time of their lives.
St Augustine has a historic district with cobblestone streets lined with cute little cafes and shops and some bed and breakfast inns. Very quaint and interesting. There are so many places to visit, you might want to spend some extra time in St Augustine.
There is the Lightner Museum with mummies and stained glass and crystals. There is Fort Matanza which represents a fort built by the Spanish. There are 43 miles of wonderful beaches for all of you sun lovers. There are all kinds of different beaches-some for pedestrians only, others where dogs are allowed, some with golden sand, etc. There is an alligator farm, old town trolly tour, old jail, etc. The old jail is my favorite. My kids loved it. Ripleys has a museum too. And how about taking a helicopter trip to view St Augustine from the sky if you run out of things to do?
And there are many, many wonderful restaurants to choose from. Just to mention a few- A1A Ale Works with inside dining and outside dining on a large porch that gives you a great view of St Augustine and the surrounding beautiful and interesting area. Another restaurant is Panama Hatties with 2 bars and advertise good prices. How about the Reef restaurant with outdoor, ocean front seats? There are many good restaurants to choose from. Drive around and make your choice according to your tastes.
If you wish to stay overnight and who wouldn't want to do that?-there's a multitude of places to stay. There is a fish camping ground, bed and breakfast inns, beach condos, historic hotels, and if you have a boat you can dock it in a marina.
I would not want to recommend one hotel over another but just to mention a few-St Augustine Beachfront at Anastasia Island, 3-1/2 miles from downtown St Augustine. Pool, waterslide, kiddie water park, tiki bar, etc. Their listed rates are $90. To $163. As in Florida, rates are always subject to change due to the seasons.
Another great place to stay is the st George Inn. This is located in the courtyard of the city gate plaza.
It has European style lodging and is located in Old Town. Miles of beaches are nearby. Swim, sail, fish, have fun. Weekday prices are $119. To $159. Per day and weekends are a little more expensive.
Again rates subject to change due to time of year.
Another hotel is the Best Western Spanish Quarter Inn which is in the heart of the city. Sight seeing trains stop often at hotel and so do the romantic horse drawn carriages. Who wouldn't want to take a ride on one of those carriages? Prices vary from $79.99 to $89.99. These prices subject to change like all the others in Florida. Always best to check with hotels and attractions in Florida because of their seasonal price changes.
Best thing to do is drive around and see which of the many hotels serves your purpose best. There are many wonderful ones in St Augustine. There are many wonderful places to visit in St Augustine. If you decide to go, try to arrange enough time to enjoy it all. I know you'll have a good time in St. Augustine.
