Generation Y consists of the age demographic born between the years 1982 and 1994. There are roughly seventy million Millennials, which represents the second largest demographic in the United States. Generation Y is the face of America's young people
Many attributes have been categorically generalized about Generation Y. They are known to question authority, but more in a "why do I have to do this" that an "I refuse to do this" manner. They are the most technologically advanced generation in the history of the United States, seamlessly integrating the latest I Phone or Palm Pilot into their daily routines.
Nowhere is the impact of the Millennials more significant that in the workplace. They expect immediate advancement without paying professional dues. The "I've got to have it all now" mentality causes generational strife. Older workers resent the way in which Generation Y conducts business. They are handed much more than their parents and grandparents. A sense of entitlement does not endear young people to their older counterparts.
For all their flaws, the Millennials may be one of the most courageous generations of the past one hundred years. Only the "Greatest Generation", the valiant men and women who protected America during World War II, surpass the courage of Generation Y. There are four valid reasons why the Millennials demonstrate more courage than the young people of thirty years ago.

We hear stories about young people who give up their lives so a squad member can live. We see pictures of young people escorting Iraqi nationals to safety after a terrorist bombing. We honor young people for preserving the sanctity of liberty.
Thirty years ago, our nation's young people were dancing to disco and wearing polyester slacks. The Vietnam War was over and with it came the end of the military draft. Courage was shunning societal norms by skipping school and smoking pot in the municipal park.
Public Service
Generation Y has swelled the volunteer ranks. The impact of their public service is being felt as far away as Darfur, and as close to home as New Orleans. They are the most public service engaged
