Short stories: Cults

by Mary Bidou

How very sad it is that God's people have wandered so far away from Him. As a believer in all things, good, evil, religion and cults, it is so troubling to think that so few of us today actually give serious thought to what is to come. We have the ability to wonder, and for that fact alone, it seems more would consider the consequences of blind faith. If there is some truth in all things, and what we believe is the truth, it almost seems possible we could create our own Heaven. It's difficult to comprehend why so many are content to imagine they are destined for eternal damnation.

People are often complacent in their faith, but why are so many content to just accept the possibility they are destined to burn in Hell. A good percentage of people who believe there is no hope for their owwn salvation do not even believe in God or Heaven. If they don't believe in God or Heaven, why then do they willingly accept the premise of Hell and Satan. Without the equal and opposite counterpart, there is no Satan. Because the modern churches, especially in the United States, have perverted the truths of their own religions, it has set the ideal of "bad faith" in the minds of our youth. If we have the ability to ponder the existence of an all powerful and eternal Hell, why not consider the alternative equally possible.

The hearts of young people are easily hardened, as there are so few life giving churches among the thousands that minister to their own conscience. Every person under the sun has the knowledge of good and evil imprinted upon their inner being. Each of us has an army of inner voices, many of which sound like our own voices, as we sound to ourselves when we speak out or different emotions, and some that sound like the voices of others who have influenced our lives in either positive or negative ways. Ultimately, each of us is also endowed with free will, yet so few of us can identify with the idea that every action we make is our choice. The way we receive people, the way we resopnd to people and the way we perceive the things around us is always a choice. Noone has power over the mind of another person, until the bearer willing releases it. While some of us are much stronger that others in our will, none of us can be guided in our perceptions. Influenced, but not guided.

It is easy to dismiss the thought of being accountable. If we shun accountability, it's easy to do as we please today, and have no guilt or remorse for tomorrow. It's easy to satisfy the flesh without taking into consideration how our actions are affecting others. It's easy to say, "I am only responsible for myself. I don't owe anybody anything."

It may not be as easy to take what other people believe is the right thing for them to do. It can be more than annoying when we encounter another selfish individual. Their self serving actions can become quite maddening, because when their actions affect our objectives, we would expect them to be considerate. It can be dangerous business to mind our own business all the time. When something happens that we are incapable of dealing with alone, it might be difficult to find some help if we were never willing to give it. In the same way, if we refuse to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, there is a Heaven and a Hell, one might be a little harder to get into once we're standing at the gate.
