Memoirs: First date stories

Internet dating. Just hearing the words used to bring me to laughter. I could never imagine two sane or even compatible people being able to find each other through the mass of personal descriptions and touched up photos.

Up until I graduated college I never saw the need for this form of dating. After graduating, I was offered a job in Alpharetta, Georgia. I would only be there for 3 months before be transfered to Illinois, but would return later in the year. For six weeks I remained locked up in my hotel room. Work was all I worried about, why even try to meet someone knowing I was leaving soon. I'd been single for just over a year, with my last relationship ending in her running off with my best friend. To put it simply,I had very little confidence in dating, especially internet dating.

One evening while chatting with my mother, she suggested that I put a profile on Yahoo Personals. I kinda laughed it off at first, but as the night went on I decided, "what's the worst that can happen?" I went on, made a profile, and purchased a one month subscription. That's when my journey began.

I quickly had bad experiences. Just waiting on dates to contact me wasn't working out. I began a search of locals and came across one profile that caught my eye. Being that I didn't consider this to be a very reasonable way of dating I just moved on from her profile. Little did I know what would come.

Around the 1st of April I recieved a message from the girl who's profile had caught my eye. I was quite shocked to say the least. She was two years my senior, beautiful, and she was contacting me. I guessed she might have seen where I had viewed her profile. She wrote how she liked my profile and thought it was great that I lived so close. We were only about a 5 minute drive from each other.

Our communication quickly moved from Yahoo to Instant Messaging and quickly it was propsed that we should meet. Now at this point I had very litle faith in the process. To begin with I'd never even met this girl. Next, she wanted to meet at a bar. I hadn't been in a bar in 4 months. Everything just seemed a little awkward, at least for me.

After work on the day we were supposed to meet, I came home and thought, "Well, if I'm gonna do this I might as well do it right." I iron my shirt, fixed my hair, cleaned up, etc. Just before I left I looked in the mirror saw that I needed to trim up my facial hair. I tried to hurry as to no be late, and it happened. The razor slit my upper lip. So here I am, a date
