What better way to celebrate Halloween than a cocktail party? Decorate your house in a ghoulish manner, get your friends to dress in their finest vampire or witches outfits and get ready to party!
You really need to cater for witches on Halloween so get a cauldron on and try to whip up some Witches Brew.
Witches Brew
1 oz apricot liqueur
tsp grenadine
1 oz lime juice
1 oz vodka
1 oz cachaca
Blitz all of the ingredients together in a blender and pour into chilled cocktail glasses. Garnish this Witches Brew with some Scary Eyeballs.
To make Scary Eyeballs you will need some radishes and some olives. Trim and peel radishes leaving a bit of red for the veiny look. Next step is to use a melon baller to create a small hole in the radish, pop the olive into the hole. Place your "eyeball" into an ice-cube tray, cover with water and freeze.
Of course Halloween brings to mind Zombies and the practice of Voodoo. A nice version of Voodoo is this delicious shooter.
Voodoo
measure Kahlua
measure Malibu
measure butterscotch schnapps
1 measure milk
For best results all of the ingredients should be chilled beforehand. Mix the ingredients together with ice in a mixing glass and then strain into a shot glass to serve.
Next you have the classic Halloween cocktail, the Zombie which is so named because you feel like a zombie the next day after drinking these!
Zombie
4 parts dark rum
4 parts light rum
2 parts 151-proof rum
2 parts Triple sec
1 tsp Pernod
2 parts fresh lime juice
2 parts fresh orange juice
2 parts pineapple juice
2 parts guava nectar
1 tbsp grenadine
1 tbsp almond syrup
Combine all of the ingredients with ice in a blender. Blend until smooth and pout into a chilled Collins glass to serve.
Next you have to beware of the Vampires, do you want to invite them in or keep them away? To keep the vampires at bay you will need to have Garlic Martinis on hand, to encourage them to stay serve a Vampire Cocktail.
Garlic Martini
2 parts garlic infused vodka
part dry vermouth
This martini can be shaken or stirred and is great garnished with a couple of cloves of garlic.
Vampire Cocktail
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1 oz Triple Sec
oz white creme de cacao
drizzle of grenadine
Blend together all of the ingredients, except the grenadine, until smooth. Pour into a cocktail glass and then drizzle the grenadine over the top.
Another fantastic twist for a Halloween party is the use of black vodka. Black vodka is relatively new vodka to the market, but making screwdrivers with it makes a visually stunning addition to any Halloween cocktail party. Pour equal parts orange juice and black vodka into a highball glass for a stunning drink.
