Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater
Mill Run, Pennsylvania
I'm definitely an avid traveler and one of my favorite things to see are historical homes. I really love to see how the other half lived and what they did back in the day. While touring Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater I have come to realize what a controlling personality he was and he didn't really care what other people thought. When he designed Fallingwater for Edgar Kaufmann and his family in 1935. He met with them to discuss what they wanted and then did what he (Frank) wanted. Fallingwater has been called "unquestionably the most famous private residence ever build", and "the best American building of the last 125 years." Now I agree it is really a beautiful home but I am not really into all the built-in furniture. Occasionally I like to change my rooms around for a different look. That is not a possibility here since most of the furniture is immovable. Mrs. Kaufmann wanted more closet space and Frank told her no you don't need it, you are only coming here on weekends. This house was built in The Bear Run area of Pennsylvania, which is a very beautiful forest featuring native rhododendron, laurel, and Appalachian wildflowers. The house is built right over a waterfall and gives the illusion that it is coming out of the waterfall and was entrusted to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1964. This is a great house with even better scenery. I enjoyed my visit to this house very much. It takes 1 hour to Tour Fallingwater and children under 6 years of age are not allowed on the tour.
