of Donald Trump, Richard Branson, etc on the key ingredients of successful businesses) must never ever be taken out of context and that, there is the "world" that we all see and then, there is the very real world.
Again, back to my "pocket change" friend and his naivety, Does he know that there are over 60 million Blogs being tracked by Technorati with a new Blog being created every seven seconds? Does he know about "eyeballs" and how they can make or break a Blog or any online business for that matter and is he prepared to strip himself of some of life's good moral principles to attract them?
Is he prepared to dwell in sensationalism? Is he prepared to dwell in politics, political correctness and hypocrisy? Is he prepared to promote risque ideas and even more, promote Internet Porn - which, by and large, is consumed by kids between the ages of 12 and 17 (FamilySafeMedia)? Is he ruthless enough to promote unsubstantiated claims that may very well bring another Blog or business to its knees? Does he really know?
Ever heard of Pay Per Post (PPP)? Well, its a recent startup that is built on a business model that pays Bloggers to promote companies and their wares. How is that model much different from seemingly innocent advertising on any Blog? Would my "pocket change" bound friend find happiness singling out PPP and dwell in the unfair double standards that could only have one intention?
What about unsolicited invitations and promotions? Does he feel comfortable spamming forums and Blogs with his signature or even worse, posting an entire entry...or long-winded wrangling, to be exact, from his Blog on someone else's.
Hey, do you get the picture. there are "successful" Blogs and there are successful Blogs. We live in a world of hype and we all know from "Web 1.0" how painful the consequences can be.
The title of my Blog is "The Second Coming". I focus on "second comings" across various subject areas (technology, religion, politics, life, sports, etc. and, of course, a little rambling here and there). I would hope that people immediately see and feel the spiritual connection. To be clear, I for one, will not do just about anything all in the pursuit of glory.
At the very core, I think we have to decide in our own minds as Bloggers what a successful Blog means...whether we are comfortable making $10 per month or whether we would be at home being the "King of the Hill" and known as the guy who was prepared to do just about anything, including promoting Internet smut and selling his soul just to run a "successful" Blog.
