dryer. By this time I had learned to question anything this child asked me because the chances were good she had done something that was going to cause a great deal of consternation. "Denise" I asked: "why do you want to turn on the dryer?" Her answer? "Rachel was wet Mommy so I put her in the dryer." With fireman like haste I ran to the back of the house where the dryer was located to hear Rachel, our cat making a pitiful sound something similar to "heroooow herooow" You guessed it she put the cat in the dryer. So much for being a calm cool collected parent.
They say the sins of the parent often come back to haunt the parent, I know mine did. Let me explain this statement: when I was around twelve years old I had a really bad report card so I forged my Mom's signature. I never thought anything about it I didn't get caught until I received a call from Denise's teacher one afternoon, she had forged her father's signature. However she misspelled his name. That night after supper and a parent teacher conference I decided to have a mother daughter conversation with my daughter. I had a difficult time keeping a straight face, since I had done the same thing, in explaining to my child why this was not appropriate behavior. When I was done I asked Denise if she had anything to say: "If I had spelled his name right I never would have gotten caught." So much for mother and daughter conversations.
Denise has not changed much over the years, she has a daughter of her own now, whom I am sure has caused her a great deal of consternation also. Paybacks are a son of gun!
