Humor: Job interviews

have stolen from co-workers in the past, we kind of frown upon that.

Bashing the Company That You Are Interviewing For : Employers want to hear the ways that you feel you can improve the company's business. This makes us look at you as a vital part of our success. Most people I interview tell me that they really like my company, and how much they look forward to working there. The one exception to this rule was a young man who, when asked why he wanted to work for my company, responded by saying he really didn't like the place at all. He needed a job, and no one else was hiring. He said that he figured he would just hang around until something better came along. Lesson to readers: at least pretend that you want to work for me.

The Cell Phone Interview: In a world where people are literally attached at the hip to their cell phones, there are still some social situations where its not ok to take a phone call. I might be crazy, but a job interview seems to be one of those situations. I was interviewing a college student for a seasonal position not that long ago. Her phone rang while I was in mid-sentence. She looked at her phone, and apologized for the interruption, but stated that she really needed to take the call. I thought to myself that this must be some sort of family emergency. Then I listened to what she was saying. There was going to be a party that night, and it was very important that she be there, but no she couldn't go because her boyfriend had special plans for her. No, she would call them back and see, maybe the boyfriend would go to the party too. Well, she had plenty of time for parties seeing as how the interview was over almost as quickly as the phone call was. Lesson to readers: make party plans after the interview, not before.

Hopefully this has thwarted any bad interview techniques you may have used in the past. Of course, this is not an all-inclusive list. There are so many more mistakes to be made!
