I started my school days ( Lower Kindergarten ) way back in the year 1965 when I was five years old. I was admitted to the lower Kindergarten in Mt carmel convent , Tangasseri a place in my District in south India. The school was run by Anglo Indian nuns and I have never seen such kind of dedicated tutors who apply cent percent of their abilities for spreading education.
It were my glorious days when I Just loved to walk in the corridors and precints of my School. The environment was so clean and tidy and our school was facing the sea. All the students enjoyed the environment thoroughly well. Our Head Mistress was one Sister Petriciah who was a strict disciplinarian.
We were tutored by superb tutors and they taught us to emerge as victors from childhood itself. we had music classes too. Students who were interested in learning Piano and guitar were given coaching from childhood itself.
Two years I spent in Mt Carmel School becuase it was a Girls school ( I am a Male ) and I was send to the adjacent Boys school when I was supposed to start my First standard curriculum.
The name of the Boys School was Infant Jesus Anglo Indian High School. ( IJAIHS). There stareted the real test of my school days. Wow ! it was really strict and we had a bunch of highly qualified Tutors most of them were Anglo Indians and we had a principal named father Peter. He was a very strict man .
We were trained to attend masses in the church before and after classes. we were trained in a magnificent fashion and that helped us to emerge as victors in life.
We had regular test papers say like weekly tests, monthly tests and so on which helped us to be up to date in our studies.
If we happen to fail in one subject we will be flogged by the principal. I still remember whe he brings our progress card and if there are red lines in any subjects which resembles that I have failed in that subject for every red line I will be flogged once.
We were so terriifed those days especially when we near the days of receiving out Report Card. Nowadays children are so free and happy and nobody is there to torture them.
we used to have sports annually and it was so interesting. Winners were awarded and hailed . we had three houses namely Bosco, Britto and Berchmans. Bosco had red stripped tie, Britto with green stripes and Berchmans with white sripes.
whenever there is an event students will be representing on the behalf of their houses.Mostly in studies as well as sports my House that is Brittos used to be in front.
Even now when I think of My principal shivers run down my spine. But one thing was that they tutored us in such a wonderful fashion we were able to emerge as victors.
