Proper Care for Long Sexy Hair
Long, healthy, well cared for hair is sexy. However, long hair that is not properly cared for most generally looks like a mess. If you are growing your hair out or considering growing your hair out you will need to start adapting a few hair care habits into your daily routine.
Caring for long hair is not difficult or time consuming. It is, however, a little different than caring for short hair. Proper care is very important for long hair as the longer the hair gets the more delicate it becomes. Therefore, the time to start adapting your hair care routine is before you start growing your hair out.
Washing Long Hair:
The proper way in which to wash long hair is a little different than most people normally wash their hair. Although, even those with short hair would reap wonderful healthy hair results from the following washing steps.
Brush or Comb Before Washing:
Begin by combing or brushing hair before washing. I personally brush my hair with an ouch-less hairbrush made for long think hair. (This is the only time I use a brush) The reason for brushing or combing hair before washing is to loosen dirt, oil, hair care product build up and to detangle the hair before getting it wet.
Washing Tips:
After combing or brushing your hair you are ready to wash it. It is important to thoroughly saturate the hair before adding shampoo. The way in which you apply your shampoo is the most important step in proper hair washing for long hair. Pour a dollop of shampoo in your hands. Rub hands together so that you can use both hands to apply the shampoo to your hair. Start by massaging the shampoo into the top of your hair. Be sure to massage and do not scrub or scratch.
Be careful to avoid bunching your hair. Most of us have gotten in the habit of bunching the hair up on the top of the head and scrubbing away. This is very bad for delicate long hair as the bunching can cause damage to the hair shaft while scrubbing and scratching can irritate the scalp.
You will need to massage the shampoo into the top of the hair. As the shampoo drips down the hair shaft run your fingers through to the ends. This will ensure the hair gets clean all the way to the ends without giving the shampoo enough strength to strip the hair shaft or add extra tangles, which we all know, can result in breakage.
Rinse and Condition:
After you have massaged the shampoo into the hair it is time to rinse the shampoo out and follow with conditioner. When adding conditioner start about mid way
