As I watch the years pass by
I try to stop the torrent
Only to find
Youth slipping through my fingers
Little did I know
The perch upon my father's knee
Was the closest to a throne
That I would ever be
Someday
I always told myself,
And that was my mantra
A sign of something to live for
No way
Might have well taken its place
For dreaming of the future
Robbed me of the present
I imagined myself
Growing taller toward the sky
But now it seems I'm getting smaller
And the stars are too high
The light is fading
And my dreams seem
Farther now than ever
Now has become never
It seemed there was a fine line
Between dreams and reality
But experience has revealed
That barrier was stronger than my spine
And when I try
To shift the blame
And pray for pity's ear
I find I've wasted another year
Looking too far forward
Blinded me to what was in front of me
And now as I look back
It seems the future came too fast
Sadly now the weight of regret
Has made slow my every step
And now I'm trapped in a state
Of coming to terms with my fate
Being foolish then
Has made me a fool now
Tomorrow was just a day away
But time was too precious a price to pay

What do you know of aging?
Your first gray hairs peek out
like frightened ducks near the blind,
your bones protest a bit too
