It has been over forty years since Star Trek first aired on television, and about twenty five years or so since Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan came out onto the big screen. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan has been widely considered to be the best of the movies of the series. It was also great how they incorporated the Original series episode, Space Seed, to make this movie and then to spawn two sequels.
Space Seed was the Original series episode that involved The Enterprise finding a ship named The Botany Bay, drifting in space and about a dozen or so humans on board in suspended animation. They rescued the humans, only to find out who and what they were. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was the sequel to this episode. In this movie, Khan, played again by Ricardo Montalban, is bent on getting his revenge against his old enemy and it also where Spock dies while trying to save the ship and its crew from death.
We first encounter, what we first assume is the Enterprise on a distress call, trying to help a ship that somehow maneuvered itself into the Klingon Neutral Zone. The Enterprise is attacked and all hands on board are lost. Then we discover that it was all an simulation called the Kobayashi Maru test for cadets so Starfleet can discover their character in no-win situations. We meet the protge of Captain Spock, Lieutenant Saavik, who was playing the captain in the simulation. Admiral Kirk has been overseeing the cadets training and makes a comment to Spock that is amusing.
Chekov is the first to discover that the planet that he and the Reliant's Captain, Captain Terrell are on, is the planet that Khan and his followers are on. He panics and tells his Captain that they must leave. Of course, before they can leave, Khan and a few of his followers arrive and take them captive. Khan proceeds to tell them that the planet that they are on was almost completely destroyed by its sister planet, Ceti Alpha VI, when it exploded. The explosion left Ceti Alpha V decimated and inhabitable, but they made do. Khan blames Kirk for all his troubles and vows revenge. His plan to take over the Reliant and hunt Kirk and the Enterprise down and destroy them. In one of the most disgusting scenes, we watch Khan plant some slugs, called Ceti Eels, that make people susceptible to suggestion in both Chekov and Captain Terrell's ears.
Meanwhile, The Enterprise and the crew are on a training mission when they receive a garbled transmission from Space Station Regula I,
